This paper presents our research and development of a new communication platform using Building Information Modelling (BIM) and a web-based interface, enabling real-time information update and interactive visualization of design and construction information. Our methods utilize (1) a BIM authoring tool’s Application Programing Interface (API) to manage building information for updating and displaying the information through a web interface and (2) web techniques to display BIM models and send updating information requests to BIM database. Based on the methods, we have created a platform enabling the web interface to (1) display available types of building components, (2) accept users’ requests, (3) perform database updates, and (4) transfer the updated database to BIM and update the BIM model. The developed platform can support bidirectional communication between stakeholders by using BIM and Web.
